The 60th Anniversary of Margaret Walker’s Jubilee with Dr. Robby Luckett — St. James’ parishioner and Professor of History, Jackson State University, where he directs the Margaret Walker Center and the COFO Center. Robby will teach on the legacy of Margaret Walker, who lived in Jackson and taught at JSU, and on her influential novel Jubilee, published sixty years ago this year. A thoroughly researched history of Walker’s family and of American slavery, Jubilee influenced later writers such as Toni Morrison and Ernest Gaines — and takes its title from the year of jubilee in Leviticus 25.
